What is the Financial Law Seminar?

The Financial Law Seminar is a students’ association containing all the former and current students of the Profound Financial Law Course, instructed in the Master’s degree course of the Antwerp University. This course is part of the Business Law module. The Profound Financial Law Course is lectured by prof. dr. Herman Braeckmans, who is also the founder and driving force of the seminar.

The seminar holds a gathering twice a year, one in July and one in December. All the current and former students of the Profound Financial Law Course are invited. At every gathering there are two distinguished speakers. Afterwards  a reception is held where former students can informally socialize and current students can come in contact with former students.

The Financial Law Seminar does not have its own means at its disposal. It is completely dependent on the dedication of prof. dr. Herman Braeckmans, the former students and a varying host institution. Being a host institution implies the sponsoring of a gathering (i.e. providing infrastructure and catering for the reception), and is always undertaken by a renowned law firm, Belgian bank or audit firm.

The seminar has existed for more than 20 years. On the occasion of its 20th anniversary in 2007, a book was published.
