Danielle Dierckx

Danielle Dierckx is doctor in political and social sciences with a thesis on poverty policies in Flanders. She is a post-doctoral researcher at the Research Centre OASeS of the University of Antwerp. She conducted research on e.g. public policies in the field of poverty eradication (local, provincial, regional, national level), on policy participation of poor peoples movements, on the representation of poverty/the poor in the media. Her research activities include analysis of social policies, social work research and action research in the field of poverty, social inequalities, culture and youth. Since 2003, she is co-editor of the Yearbook on Poverty and Social Exclusion and she is coordinator of the academic book series ‘Social InSights’ (‘Sociale InZichten’) of the Research Centre OASeS (since 2007).
At the University of Antwerp Danielle Dierckx teaches on urban intervention strategies in the Master Social Work (since 2008). Furthermore she is consultant for different actors at several levels. At the Council of Europe, she is consultant for the Expert Committee on Empowerment of People experiencing extreme poverty (2007-2008). At the local level, she supports local social policies in Flanders/Antwerp (since 2007). She is advisor for research projects on local youth policies and local community development in South Africa, in cooperation with the Flemish government (since 2005). She is also a member of the VLIR-Own initiative on Policy management, governance and poverty alleviation in the Western Cape, South Africa (2003-2013).
She is chair and/or member of some policy advisory boards and jury’s for evaluation of funding, e.g. for the Flemish Ministry of Culture and the King Boudouin Foundation (‘Koning Boudewijnstichting’). She is also a member of different boards of local and regional socio-cultural and welfare organisations.
