1. Prerequisites *Algemene competenties ENGLISH The course is aimed at native speakers of Dutch and it assumes a good proficiency in English (secondary education level).

2. Objectives (expected learning outcomes) ENGLISH The programme is designed to improve the students¿ general language skills (reading, listening, speaking, writing), to raise their abilities in academic English, and to develop their knowledge of British and American society (politics, media, culture).
3. Course content ENGLISH (1) Language skills: the language of presentations, pronunciation practice, grammar revision, spelling, style, lexis (2) Reading texts: reading and discussing of texts relating to social and political studies and the media (3) Newspaper articles: summarising, presenting and discussing recent articles from the quality press (group work)
