1. Prerequisites *Algemene competenties With the theories around 'face' (Goffman) and 'politeness' (Brown & Levinson) as its foundation, this course aims to give an overview of the ways in which we as individuals communicate with others and the world around us. The course deals with both verbal and non-verbal communication. It is inspired by insights from social psychology, anthropology, sociology and linguistics.

2. Objectives (expected learning outcomes) The students have gained insight into the ways in which we as individuals communicate with others and the world around us. In addition, they are able to analyse interactions between people from the perspectives of 'face' and 'politeness'.
