2. Objectives (expected learning outcomes) After this course, students know how to apply a specific terminology and methodology when writing or analysing scripts or stories. Students acquire a terminology that helps them to communicate about scripts and stories in a less subjective way.They also learn how to construct a (longer) dramatic story more efficiently through a number of steps: story idea, synopsis, treatment, step outline, screenplay.
3. Course content This course offers a number of helping instruments to write ànd analyse screenplays.An important number of tools (e.g. act structure, suspense devices) were developed within the script profession. Others (e.g. narrative agency, focalisation) are borrowed from narratology.The course deals with the following topics: visual storytelling, basic dramatic components, narrative structures, character development, narrative devices.All concepts are illustrated with numerous film clips from over a hundred titles.
