Statistics I (1BPSW-09) AND Statistics 2 (3BPSW-010) AND Qualitative Research Methods (2BPSW-03) AND Quantitative Research Methods (1BPSW-08)
2. Objectives (expected learning outcomes)
By means of workshop-sessions, students learn the practical skills to perform scientific research in the Social Sciences. This includes both quantitative methods for the analysis of large datasets (e.g. logistic regression, unidimensional and multidemensional scaling) and qualitative methods for research on little cases (discourse analysis, QCA, Case study).
3. Course content
The participants are encouraged to choose some 'capita selecta' of the wide range of research methods, such as focus groups, meta-analysis, grounded theory, textual analysis, etc.
Two research designs will be analysed and compared on their strengths, wherein one design can be considered more succesfull than the other. Next to this, an overview is given of pitfalls that often happen in Social Sciences research.
