1. Prerequisites
*Algemene competenties

Knowledge of basics in chemistry, microbiology, physics at academic level.

It is advised to follow the course Environmental Technology 1.

*Sequentiality
None

2. Objectives (expected learning outcomes)

Students must be able to handle theoretically environmental problems in the domains water, air, soil and waste inclusive ecodesign. They must also be able to handle these problems practically after some period of training and working in one of the specific domains.

In part II, the student will improve their insights in more modern techniques as there are membrane technology and electrochemistry. Further they will obtain extra feeling for the practical approaches via visits of companies and contacts with real problems. This will allow them to work actively in the presented domains in a possible future job related to these fields.

3. Course content

The course tries to extend the knowledge, developed in course I. This will be done via visits at real installations and via extensive presentations on specific topics as membrane technology, electrochemistry etc. The students will be brought into contact with the BATNEEC (Best Available Techniques Not Entailing Excessive Costs) principle via practical examples. Also prevention technology and evaluation methods will allow them to avoid new environmental problems in the future. Such methods are LCA, product analysis and methods to prevent emissions and waste production.
