The Research Centre on Commodity Flows continues in a third generation Policy Research Centre –
MOBILO
(Research Centre on Freight and passenger flows)
The Department of Transport and Regional Economics can continue its policy supporting research for the Flemish government for another four years. The Research Centre on Commodity Flows will continue as ‘MOBILO - The Research Centre on Freight and Passenger Flows’. The Centre will deal with a series of new, targeted research themes, which are important for the Flemish policy decision making and which are built around two focal points: freight transport on the one hand, passenger transport on the other. Both freight and passenger transport require a specific expertise and approach, but they are also interrelated. Therefore, the necessary expertise is brought together in a consortium, led by the Department of Transport and Regional Economics at the University of Antwerp. The consortium partner is the Department MOSI-Transport and Logistics at the Free University of Brussels. The consortium MOBILO (Mobility and Logistics) will use its expertise and experience to deal with research streams in the five main research areas as defined in the call: ports, airports, integration of the logistics chain, city logistics and commuter traffic.MOBILO’s research is built on three pillars which are crucial for successful policies for sustainable transport: transport matters, sustainability matters and innovation matters. The promoters within the University of Antwerp are prof. dr.
Hilde Meersman
, prof. dr.
Eddy Van de Voorde
, prof. dr.
Thierry Vanelslander
and prof. dr.
Ann Verhetsel
. The day-to-day management is consigned to dr.
Christa Sys
.
