The University of Antwerp and its Department of Transport and Regional Economics have a long-standing tradition in transport education. This resulted in a number of highly specialised postgraduate transport training programmes. Specific examples are the Advanced Masters programmes in Maritime Sciences and in Sea and Transport Law (both programmes taught in Dutch - information available by clicking left).
Furthermore, the Department members take care of transport education in the Bachelor and Master Programmes in Applied Economics within the Faculty of Applied Economics at the University of Antwerp (programmes in Dutch - information available by clicking left). The Department members also supply (transport-related) courses to other Departments and Faculties at the University of Antwerp (e.g. Faculty of Arts), as well as to transport-related programmes at other universities with which some form of co-operation agreement exists (a.o. Universities of Ghent, Delft,...)
The programmes in general do not intend to form operational logistics servants. It does in essence not deal with customs forms, administrative and documentary prescriptions, V.A.T.-formalities with national or international transport, etc., although these documentary procedures of course do rise where they influence the economics of the transportation process.
The Department's staff also supervises various Ph.D students in their research.
