The Europe 2020 Strategy of the European Union will have a strong impact on the social, environmental and economic policies in the coming years. Belgium/Flanders will have to accommodate its national strategy within the margins of common EU objectives. Also local authorities will be affected by these policies.
The University of Antwerp, the city of Antwerp and the Policy Research Center - Decisive Governance organize the colloquium ‘Cities and the Europe 2020 strategy’, focusing on the role of cities in the Europe 2020 strategy. How do cities shape and implement EU policies that aim for smart, inclusive and sustainable growth? How do cities engage in multilevel relationships with the regional, national and European level? Are they allowed to do so? What kind of opportunities does the upcoming review of the Europe 2020 strategy offer to local authorities?
An interesting mix of EU officials, local and national policy makers, and academics will engage in cases and general reflections during a half day colloquium in Antwerp.
Who should participate? The colloquium will be of special interest to local, regional, national and European policy-makers (both politicians and officials), academics and stakeholders in local economic, social and environmental policies that have an interest in the impact of Europe on local policies and administration.
The working language of the colloquium will be English.
Participation is free of charge, but online registration is required.
