Location
Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) is located in Wuhan, the capital city of Hubei Province, in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River. HUST is composed of two campuses, the main campus beautifully nestled at the foot of Yujia hill and beside the East Lake, and the medical campus on the other side of the Yangtze River. With an area over 500 hectares, most of which covered by green trees and grasses, HUST enjoys the reputation of being one of the most beautiful campuses in China.
HUST History
The current HUST was established on May 26, 2000, after a mergence among former HUST, Tongji Medical University, Wuhan Urban Construction Institute and Wuhan Science & Technology Vocational College. It’s a key comprehensive university under the direct supervision of the Ministry of Education of P. R. China. The current Minister of Education, Dr. ZHOU Ji, who graduated from former HUST, was once the president of the university. As one of the most prestigious universities in China, HUST was listed among the first group universities in both the national "211 Project" and "985 Project".
HUST Today
Today HUST ranks among the top tier leading comprehensive universities in China. It offers 85 undergraduate programs, 253 Master's programs, 178 doctoral programs and 29 post-doctoral research programs, covering eleven discipline areas, including philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, history, agriculture, science, engineering, medicine and management. On HUST Campus, there are 1 national laboratory, 4 national leading laboratories, 6 national engineering research centers and 37 ministerial / provincial level key laboratories. Among the 12600 staff members (including 5400 from affiliated hospitals), there are 22 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences & the Chinese Academy of Engineering, over 1000 professors and 1300 associate professors. The full time resident students are over 57,000, among whom about 1000 are international students and 19,000 are graduate students. Abiding by the motto “Commend moral, Advocate knowledge, Seek truth and Make innovations”, HUST is striving to fulfill its strategic goal of building first-class engineering and medical disciplines, high-level liberal arts and science disciplines with its own characteristics in order to develop itself into a comprehensive research-based open university enjoying world fame.
