The Research Administration Office (ADOC) operates in close cooperation with and under the direction of the president of the Research Council, Prof. dr. Jean-Pierre TIMMERMANS, who represents, supports and promotes the university’s research activities and research policy within the Flemish research landscape. In this capacity, he is president of the Research Council and of the Council for the Industrial Research Fund and Innovation Policy. He is also a member of the board of management and the board of governors of the University of Antwerp and represents the University of Antwerp in the main interuniversity advisory and policy research bodies. For example, he is a member of the Flemish Council for Science and Innovation, and sits in the boards of IWT and the FWO. He is also a member of the Council of Research Park Waterfront.
As head of the Research Administration Office, Dr. Eric SPRUYT directs and coordinates the overall operation of the department; he also assists in the implementation of the research policy of the University of Antwerp, including service on the councils for education, research and service to society. He also acts as secretary of the Research Council, and is as such responsible for the budget of the University Research Fund. He further represents the University of Antwerp in a number of interuniversity councils, committees and advisory organs pertaining to scientific policy.
The Research Administration Office integrates three units: Basic Research, Quality Assessments and Data Management (Tim Engels), Strategic and Applied Research (Anne Adams) and the Interface service (Christian Daman).
Furthermore, the department represents the University of Antwerp in the Centre for R&D monitoring (ECOOM, UA promoter Prof. Dr. Jean-Pierre TIMMERMANS, project leader Tim ENGELS).
