Admissions

Who can apply
The programme aims to attract PhD researchers with an interest in the doctrinal analysis of international economic analysis, possibly in combination with other areas of law such as public international law, human rights or EU law. Research projects that span doctrinal analysis of law and related theoretical or conceptual inquiries, such as the constitutionalisation of the WTO, democratic legitimacy, the theory of legal reasoning or distributive justice, are equally invited.

Applicants should have a first degree in law or a significant number of credits in law and should have obtained a first degree with an average equivalent to a B+ in the Anglo-Saxon system. Applicants must have a demonstrated potential for high-quality scholarly work with a good proficiency of English and submit a research proposal within the thematic focus of this doctoral programme outlining the research questions, methodology and novelty in light of pre-existing literature with a bearing on the main research question.

Fees and application procedure
The fees for the academic year 2012-2013 amount to 12.000 € and cover full tuition and research costs for a period of three years. There is no differentiation between EU and non-EU students. The fees are to be paid in two instalments: € 4000 before the registration and € 8000 following the successful completion of the first year, the conversion year (which will determine whether the candidate is suitable to proceed to full doctoral status).

Candidates must supply a statement of financial viability from their financial institution indicating that they have sufficient funds to cover the programme and living costs.
