Production and Operations Management (POM) concerns the transformation of production and operational inputs into outputs that, when distributed, meet the needs of customers. Marketing identifies customer needs and aims at selling a product that meets customers' requirements. The role of POM is to ensure production at the lowest possible system cost taking into consideration performance, quality, reliability, production costs and delivery dates. To make a product, production facilities are needed, raising issues of subcontraction, design and layout of production facilities, productivity and reliability of equipment, maintenance scheduling, capacity management and production systems, production scheduling and production costs, quality management and inspection strategies, etc. This course focuses on improving the problem formulation and problem solving skills of the participants by means of regular group assignments. |
