Academic English

LINGUAPOLIS offers courses in Academic English within the doctoral training programme (DOCOP) and as part of the programme on "English in an Academic Context for Lecturers".

  • The module on Giving Presentations aims at improving the oral English language skills of lecturers in higher education. Exercises in the use of effective linkers and individual training are designed to boost the self-confidence of participants and to enhance the impact and professional quality of participants’ presentations in English.

  • The module on Writing Research Papers is intended to improve the English writing skills of lecturers and researchers. The aim is for participants to be able to write real English. We use authentic textual material that ties in as closely as possible with the academic context of the participants. We expect everyone to contribute actively to the sessions.

  • The module on Teaching in English aims at improving the oral proficiency of lecturers in higher education. By practising specific teaching skills (e.g. explaining concepts), as well as the use of an appropriate classroom vocabulary (words and sentences) and linking structures (e.g. "let's move on to ..."), and through individual training, the course will boost the self-confidence of participants. This will enable them to concentrate on the content of their course without needing to worry about their language use.
