Seminar organised by TQC Subject : Spectroscopic study on quantum phonon dynamics in correlated systems Speaker: Kai Ji, Institute of Theoretical Physics, University of Heidelberg Abstract: The nano-scaled ferroelectric clusters come into being in paraelectric BaTiO3 when the temperature decreases close to Curie temperature (Tc). These ultrafast dipole fluctuations have been discerned in the soft x-ray pump-probe speckle spectroscopy recently. In this talk, I will present a theoretical study on the ultrafast relaxation dynamics of polarization clusters by the path integral Monte Carlo approach. It is shown that the time evolution of speckle pattern is related to the relaxation of ferroelectric clusters. The relaxation rate slows down on decreasing temperature towards Tc as a result of the enhanced critical fluctuations. Application of this theoretical approach to some other phonon related spectroscopic issues will also be briefly discussed.
