XVIth International Conference on Oxygen Binding and Sensing Proteins, Antwerp 2010

Dear Colleague

The essential role performed by proteins that transport, scavenge and sense oxygen in living systems is no longer debated. No other protein family has contributed more to our general understanding of protein and gene structure, function and evolution. However, even being the best studied proteins, still new aspects of these proteins, as for example their potential role in bacterial pathogenicity and their role in scavenging reactive oxygen species and many more, have been discovered recently.

A series of conferences was started in 1966 and initially focused on ‘invertebrate dioxygen binding proteins’. This has gradually been extended to cover the large variety of proteins responsible for oxygen binding and sensing and has become a “must” for scientists working in the field.
In the tradition of its predecessors the XVIth conference of this series will be held this year 22-26 August in Antwerp, Belgium.

You are cordially invited to participate to this conference and contribute to its proceedings to be published in the International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (IUBMB).

We look forward to welcome you in Antwerp

Sincerely,

Sylvia Dewilde and Luc Moens
