The course 'Technology Workshop' requires a good knowledge of port and maritime economics as to better grasp the technological issues discussed during the course.

2. Eindcompetenties (eindtermen)

Upon completion of the course, students will be capable of applying their insights in maritime technology challenges and understand how technology in the port and shipping industry contribute to improve operational efficiency.

More specifically, by the end of the course, students will understand the following issues:

  • How do shipping and port-related companies integrate technology in the management of assets and processes?
  • How are management activities in shipping and ports impacted by technological developments?
  • What are best practices in  technology management in the port and shipping industry?

 




3. Inhoud

The course 'Technology Workshop' consists of an introductory lecture and a series of selected visits to relevant actors and experts in the field of port, maritime and logistics technology. 

The visits relate to the following activities:  

  • Port construction and development
  • Maritime Accessibility and Safety (DEME, URS)
  • Ship construction and technical analysis (TU Delft, Damen Shipyards, Marin, Huisman)
  • Port technology and strategy (port of Rotterdam, port of Antwerpen, etc...)
  • Logistics planning and technology (Sea-Invest, Nova Natie, Tabaknatie, PSA)
  • Cargo handling technology (Sea-Invest, Nova Natie, Tabaknatie, PAS)
  • Logistic management and technology in production companies (BASF, ArcelorMittal, Total)

 

Succeeding in this course is not a question of learning by heart, but of opening your mind and by paying full attention to everything what you hear and what you see.

 

The course starts wih an introductory lecture during which the whole working procedure, the main objectives and the content of the program is explained.
