1. Prerequisites *Algemene competenties
- being introduced to the history and concepts of western philosophy
- passive knowledge of English, French and German
*Sequentiality
- having completed succesfully an introductory course in philosophy
2. Objectives (expected learning outcomes) - knowledge of the history of the philosophy of religion - insight in the basic concepts of the philosophy of religion - skill to communicate this knowledge and these insights
3. Course content Four phases are distinguished in the history of the philosophy of religion: 1. premodern (Anselm, Thomas Aquinas) 2. natural religion (deism) 3. pathology of religion (Hume, Feuerbach, Freud) 4. description of the religious phenomenon (Wittgenstein) The elaboration of each phase includes the close reading of primary sources.
