1. Prerequisites *Algemene competenties - End goals secondary school

2. Objectives (expected learning outcomes) - The skill to read and to transcribe handwritten texts from the middle ages and the early modern period - Knowledge and use of the most important tools (dictionaries, paleography books etc.) available for the reading and analysis of old texts
3. Course content - A brief overview of the development of writing from the middle ages until the 18th century - Survey of important tools useful for the reading and analysis of old texts - The overwhelming part of the classes is used for the reading of old text (from the 13th century onwards) writtten in Dutch and French. The students have to exercise the distributed text in advance. During the classes, the texts are read by the students and - if necessary - corrected by the teacher.
