1. Prerequisites *Algemene competenties This course will summarise the procedure that a chemical compound follows from its discovery as a new chemical entity to its approval for the market. The student should have a thorough knowledge of the preceding courses of the pharmaceutical education.

2. Objectives (expected learning outcomes) The student will receive an insight on the complex process of drug discovery.
3. Course content A schematical discussion of the drug research process from the synthesis of a new chemical entity to its approval for the market will be presented. New trends in drug research will be discussed with special attention for rational drug design. Case studies will be presented.
