2. Objectives (expected learning outcomes)
Knowledge of the different forms of punitive sanctions.
3. Course content
This course offers an overview of the different forms of sanctions. On the one hand, the national and international framework will be explained and on the other hand there will be taught some penological visions. The criminal sanctions (deprivation of liberty, patrimonial sanctions, alternatives) will be examined, as well as the differences between criminal and other sanctions. In this course we will also discuss some important sentencing questions and attention will be paid to the execution of the sanctions and more specific the legal and practical problems rising in this matter.
If possible, a visit to a penitentiary institution will be organised.
