2. Objectives (expected learning outcomes) The course aims at the acquisition of sociological and political insight into the naming and framing and agenda-setting of environmental problems and solutions.
3. Course content This courses is nor an exhaustive, nor a technical introduction to environmental policy. The focus lies on the contribution of the policy sciences to environmental policy issues. Issues, output and outcome of environmental policy are characterised. In the second place, the dynamics of environmental policy and the policy process or policy life cycle are clarified (also planning instruments and policy evaluation are highlighted). Application is mainly found in the Flemish and Belgian environmental policy context. In the third place, the actors are introduced and the ways they influence environmental policy making; not only governmental actors, also private organisations as insiders or outsiders.
Note: seen particular intensive courses at the University of Antwerpen on Environmental Law, on Environmental Policy in the European Union and on Sustainable Development.

6. Compulsory reading – study material The text book (Cursusdienst) includes all the articles, used in the course. Hand-outs with the headlines and the illustrations can be downloaded after the lessons. Blackboard also contains references to actual environmental status reports and the most important policy documents.
