1. Prerequisites *Algemene competenties It would be desirable - but not obligatory - that the students would also follow the bachelor course Philosophy of religion (Prof. Luc Braeckmans).

2. Objectives (expected learning outcomes) Students should be capable of discussing a (fragment of) classical text from the history of the philosophy of religion. This would imply situating that text in its times and within the work of that author, commenting on the problemsetting of the text, discussing its methodology and argumentative structure, giving reflections on its reception, assessing it and its possible criticisms...
3. Course content Close reading and discussion of crucial texts from the history of the philosophy of religion, e.g.: Cicero, Anselmus, Thomas, Spinoza, Descartes, Hume, Kant,...
4. Teaching method Direct contact: LecturesSeminars (possible question and answer sessions) Personal work: Assignments - individual
5. Assessment method Exam: Oral, with written preparation Continuous assessment: Participation in classroom activities
