Profile of the programme
The programme of Medicine in Antwerp is the result of a well thought-over concept.  Starting in the 1st year, top experts offer their up-to-date, scientifically based knowledge and experience in ever-changing healthcare. Teaching happens in small groups, with individual training and student participation, guaranteeing an easy contact with professors.  You will learn to deal with social issues as a doctor from different angles, and with a scientific approach, starting in the 1st year via the learning assignments taken from practical settings, such as the subjects ‘Doctor in Society’ and or ‘Clinical Line’.  You will visit aid centres, centres for drug users and rehab clinics.  During your hospital internship you will learn nursing techniques on the work floor. You will learn to observe, to participate, and to talk to and listen to the patient.
Occupational profiles of graduates
  • Specialisation possibilities within a broad network of hospitals in the Antwerp region.
  • General Practitioner: the Centre for General Practice Research Group and network of general practice teachers.  You will learn what general practice medicine as a specialism means: applied science close to the people.
  • Social Medicine:  pre-specialisation in Social Medicine is a stepping stone to a career as a juvenile, insurance or company doctor.
  • Excellent scientific research: As of the 1st Bachelor year you are actively involved in scientific research.  Via annual incentive prizes, promising medical researchers are stimulated at the University of Antwerp.
