Prerequisites *Algemene competenties This course is a BA2-course. It is taught in Dutch, but for non-native speakers alternative assignments and tutorials can be provided. *Sequentiality None 2. Objectives (expected learning outcomes) Gain an insight into major cultural and societal changes of the early modern period. Attention will be paid to major processes such as the process of state formation, religious renewal, scientific revolution in modernising the European society. This will be done, however, while paying sufficient attention to frictions in society.  Reading seminars Dr. Maarten Van Dijck   Reading seminars on the history of early modern intercultural contacts complements the main course in early modern history.     3. Course content In this course several key topics of early modern European history are being dealt with. This course intends both to offer an overview of early modern European history, as well as an in-depth study of specific exemplary topics such as the process of civilisation and witchcraft. 4.
