Profile of the programme
Law exists to organise people living together.  Jurists must therefore understand mankind and civilisation and be able to apply their juridical knowledge to help make the world a more just and lawful place, and so our Law course will teach you the basics of human sciences.  Law is approached from national, european, and international perspectives.  There is also an emphasis on juridical skills.  Law isn’t just about ‘knowing’, but also about ‘doing’ Reading juridical texts, getting acquainted with French, German, and English legal language, researching sources of law in the library, writing a juridical contribution, debating over current legal issues, accounting and reporting, negotiation, etc. As is tradition in the Law faculty at the University of Antwerp, many juridical skills are taught in the course, as often as possible in small groups.
Occupational profiles of graduates
In the past, a law degree automatically led to a career as a lawyer, magistrate, or notary. Civil law, criminal law, and judicial law stood central.  Nowadays, more and more jurists are applying themselves to social law, fiscal law, environmental law, immigration law, medical law, etc.  International and European law are important in all of these branches.  Many jurists are finding jobs in public services (in the federal state, communities, or regions, or the so-called ‘parastatalen’ or autonomous governmental organisations) and in the private sector in industrial and trade businesses, banks, insurance companies, social organisations and professional associations, political parties, media and pressure groups.  Some of these positions are very juridical, such as juridical advisor, fiscal consultant, etc.  Other positions are broader, such as HR manager, policy advisor, etc.
