Students should  have passed the exams of the courses 'family law' and criminal law'

2. Objectives (expected learning outcomes)
Students are expected to become acquainted with the different issues concerning problematic behaviour of children (youth criminality, children who are victims of aggressive or negligent conduct of their parents, children refusing to obey  parental guidelines etc).

During the (oral) examination students must be able to prove their knowledge about the Belgian and Flemish legislation relating to  youth protection law als described in het compulsary study material. Only consultation of legislation is permitted during examination



3. Course content
Youth protection law contains a wide range of topics in the sphere of both criminal law and civil law: 1°criminal proceedings against young offenders, 2°protection of children who are victims of child abuse, 3°legal representation of children, 4°actions against parents neglecting the interests of their children, 5°civil proceedings about joint custody and 6°treaties concering rights for children or abduction of children.

    Students have the opportunity (not the obligation) to observe proceedings before the Antwerp juvenile court under the supervision of the tutor, also public prosecutor.
