2. Objectives (expected learning outcomes) Basic knowledge of the main currents and figures in ancient and medieval philosophy.
3. Course content This course gives an introduction to the main systems and currents from Thales up to and including the 16th century. The survey of ancient philosophy is based on the dialectics between philosophy as a theoretical science and philosophy as wisdom. The survey of medieval philosophy focuses on the tension between rational thought and Christian faith. The course ends with an outline of the great currents in Renaissance philosophy.
