1. Prerequisites *Algemene competenties Students are supposed to have attended an introductory course into philosophy

2. Objectives (expected learning outcomes) -to offer insight into some basic notions of ethics and the most prominent contemporary theories of moral philosophy -critical reflection on post-modern culture; insight into the relation between pre-modern and (post-)modern ethics
3. Course content The first part gives a survey of some standard moral concepts (Ch.1), outlines the shift in the meaning of 'moral identity' from modernity to postmodernity (Ch.2), and discusses the relation between ethics and conceptions on freedom (Ch.3). The second part offers an overview of the most dominant moral systems, that is consequentialism (Ch.4), deontic ethics (Ch.5), virtue ethics (Ch.6), and hermeneutic ethics (Ch.7).
