Profile of the programme
Every day, we are confronted with the media, commercials, images, e-mails and other forms of communication. The bachelor Communication Studies will help you place these phenomena in a broader context. You will develop a diverse and scientific view of communication processes.  Mass media, group communication and interpersonal communication will be discussed. The current media landscape will be analysed using communication theories and media will be defined as important parts of contemporary culture
Communication studies at the University of Antwerp is not a technical training leading you to be a journalist or film director. If you wish to understand communication processes, you must study the social context. You will acquire thorough knowledge of social, political, and economical phenomena, which is why Communication Studies is part of the faculty of Political and Social Sciences.
Occupational profiles of graduates
Graduates tend to find work in the different media (press, radio, television, film) as editors, production leaders or policy makers. Some graduates work as advisors, opinion researchers or spin doctors and work in advertising consultancy, research agencies or corporations where they deal with internal and external communication. There is also a place for them in the school system. In the public sector the type of work is focused on governmental communication and scientific research.
