The human anthill fascinates you. You are interested in what drives people, what brings them together and what drives them apart: from their intimately private lives to the networks of globalised society. You ask yourself why poverty hasn’t been eradicated? What motivates terrorists? What makes ordinary girls and boys turn into pop idols? What is racism? Why do people (still) marry? Where is society going with an ageing population? You have an inquisitive mind and broad interests. Current affairs interest you, but you want to know more, you seek more depth, explanations. And so you study Sociology of course. The Sociology course at the University of Antwerp has an excellent reputation. The sociological studies by amongst others the ‘Centrum voor Sociaal Beleid’ and by ‘OASeS’ are rated highly. This course offers a broad academic basis. Philosophy, Psychology, Law, Economics, Anthropology, History, they are part of the course. You will be trained in the necessary skills: understanding and developing theories, applying different methods, deciphering statistics. The study methods are diverse: apprenticeship, lectures, writing papers, and working together in small groups.

Thanks to the broad and thorough academic character of the course, there are many options. Sociologists find work in almost all policy preparing and management positions in businesses, with the government, in scientific research, in press and media, in the nonprofit sector, in cultural and social organisations, in environmental and consumer groups, in the welfare sector, and in education.
