2. Objectives (expected learning outcomes) Basic knowledge of the history of the Low Countries; understanding that seemingly self-evident concepts as 'Nederlands', 'Vlaams' etc. were the imprevisible outcome of an interplay of numerous historical factors; ability to interpret canonised cultural artefacts within their historical context.
3. Course content Discussion of the most important cultural movements, genres and artefacts in the Low Countries within their political, economical and social context.
