1. Prerequisites *Algemene competenties This course builds upon German for Business and Economics 1

2. Objectives (expected learning outcomes)
The course German for Business and Economics 2 emphasizes the use of written and oral German for active business communication as well as the knowledge of the socio-economic reality of German speaking countries.
It strives to:
- increase the student's active knowledge of general and economic vocabulary
- increase the student's active knowledge of German grammar at a more advanced level (i.c. the use of the tenses (Perfektum); the modi (Konjunktiv); subordinate clauses; conjunctions; word order etc.)
- develop the ability to read/ understand/ present/ comment and discuss socio-economic topics regarding the German speaking countries as they appear in complex texts / television programmes (WISO).
- exercise the communicative and strategic skills, needed to be succesfull in different business contexts
- increase the knowledge of the culture and the socio-economic aspects of German speaking countries (= 'Landeskunde')
3. Course content
- Grammatical exercises (see above): in class/ individual training (Blackboard)
- Vocabulary: extension of the general and specialized German vocabulary based on more complex texts (see: reader) about socio-economic topics
- practical business communication, written and oral: practising small talk; negotiations; meetings; giving presentations
