Objectives and learning outcomes
The Master of Multilingual Professional Communication (MPC) aims to train students who are able to do research in language, language use and communication of and in companies, government organisations and non-profit organisations. The programme also aims to closely connect theoretical insights with the further development of the students’ professional communication skills (in writing and orally).

These are the general core objectives:
  • The master programme enables the students to broaden and deepen their competence to analyse language use and proficiency in professional settings (internal and external communication in business, government and non-profit organisations). This methodological, scientific competence is connected with the skill to improve, coach and evaluate proficiency in different professional contexts.
  • The master programme offers an introduction to and a profound insight in qualitative and quantitative research methods in relation to language proficiency research.
  • The master programme aims to strengthen the languange competence in professional communication in Dutch and in at least one and possibly 2 foreign languages.
  • The master programme gives a thorough introduction to a number of sub domains of business management: accountancy, finance, marketing and management. This way, students acquire an insight in some business aspects of the professional context in which language is used for specific purposes. Students with a bachelor degree in applied economics/business engineering (in information management systems) can specialize in a major of business management.
The Master of Multilingual Professional Communications (MPC) has the following core tasks:
  • The Master MPC develops activities in the domain of (professional) language proficiency and business management. This training wants to give insight into the actual, relevant scientific knowledge and skills in this field. The training is clearly and visibly supported by scientific research in the domain. This is guaranteed by the unique concentration of researchers in this field at the University of Antwerp. The fact that the programme is interfaculty is of course an important advantage to realise this core task.
  • The research tasks can be the analysis and evaluation of complex forms of interaction, in which specific forms of communication are under discussion (corporate communication, communication management, intercultural communication etc.) The outcomes of this research will be scientifically relevant but also useful in evaluating, adjusting, influencing and improving the quality of communication in practice.
  • The Master in MPC will be able to use specific expertise in the field of language proficiency, for domains that require a certain familiarity with business economics, education and training, management marketing, finance and accountancy.
  • The social domains in which the Master MPC will be active are both the profit and non-profit sector (internal and external communication, publicity, broadcasting, information and instruction, etc …). A Master in MPC could also pursue an academic career.

Final examination
A student’s final result is a weighted average of the exam results the student has obtained for all the programme components of his/her training programme. In calculating the final result, the credits corresponding to the various programme components are used for weighting the results obtained for those components.

The final result is expressed as an integer out of 100.

A student whose final result is less than 50 out of 100 can never be declared successful.

A student is successful for the training programme if he/she has obtained credits for all the programme components in his/her training programme.
