2. Objectives (expected learning outcomes)
  • You are able to select the most adequate research method to analyze a communicative problem
  • You are able to assess communication quality from different perspectives
  • You are able to use the most common (qualitative and quantitaive) research methods and techniques in the domain of professional communication
  • You are able to identify the strengths and weaknesses of different research designs and methods



3. Course content

This course consists of two modules:

1. Communication research: methods and techniques
This module is an introduction to different qualitative and quantitative approaches of research in the domain of 'Communication studies'.  Descriptive, observational and effect research are dealt with, in combination with different techniques (survey, observation (e.g. logging and think aloud), interview etc.).

2. Master thesis
Students are invited to set up their own research and write a master's thesis about it.
