2. Objectives (expected learning outcomes)
The course is designed to improve the competences of the students to participate activily in environmental education. The students gain understanding of environmental education as formal, non-formal and informal learning, it's concepts and didactics. They get acquinted with the environmental education policy in Flanders, the actors involved and the implementation world-wide of education for sustainable development. The course enables students to implement their knowledge in an educational project.
3. Course content
The course explains the context, concepts, roles and characteristics of environmental education, it's perspectives and possible pathways of implementation regarding education for sustainable development. Environmental education as a policy-instrument is explained as well as the pedagogical objectives and social learning. Formal, informal and non-formal learning is explored by a research assignement. The environmental education policy in Flanders is analysed taking into account the objectives, actors and target groups, design and didactics. Theory is linked to practice by working out an educational project about an environmental issue.
