Firstly, the Master (MTME) has a thorough knowledge of research methodology, quantitative and qualitative research methodology, advanced industrial economics and game theory applied to the transport and maritime sector, the organization of the shipping industry, strategic port planning and port marketing, port management, port policy, supply chain management, ICT and risk management, strategic management, and additional related issues. Secondly, the Master needs to have the necessary flexibility and creativity in this highly international sector that is liable to day-to-day changes. The Master will lead the research activities, will make studies, co-ordinate them and secure the follow-up (within the academic world, the private sector, and relevant government bodies). He/she will also be responsible for the documentation management and data processing in order to contribute to the preparation of the policy, the decision-making process and policy implementation. He/she will have to lead a ream of experts, and will help to define the strategy of the corporation. In order to develop the strategic policy of the corporation the Master will also formulate policy proposals and advice. The Master will also have to take care of good internal communication in order to guarantee a good information flow between the actors concerned. Maintaining good external contacts (networking) is essential for securing an optimised position of his/her corporation on the (inter)national market.
