You could describe a pharmacist as an ‘expert in medication’: an expert in the field of pharmaceutics, who is able to advise both patients and doctors. The programme covers all aspects of medicines: origin, chemical synthesis, analysis, structure, mechanisms, administration methods, applications, use and side effects. Pharmaceutical care, regulations in medicines and deontology are also part of the programme.

As a pharmacist you can fill different positions in healthcare:
- The Officinal Pharmacist offers information on drugs and guides patients. He is responsable for the preparation, the conformity and the quality of medication. In the past years, the emphasis has moved to the social role that the pharmacists has in regards to the use of medication. He offers the patient a scientifically based explanation on the medication in a prescription, the self care medication, and para-pharmaceutical products.
- In the pharmaceutical industry the pharmacists is included in research and development, fabrication, quality care and control, clinical trials and government regulations concerning registration and refunding.
- In the hospital the pharmacist is in charge of management, distribution of medication, medical aids and implants, preparation of sterile medication, sterilisation, hygiene, information for medics and paramedics, follow-up of clinical studies, and compiling formularia.
- With the government, the pharmacist can find work in the Federal Agency for Medication and Health Products).
- There are further possibilities in research and education or the possibility of further training as a clinical biologist.
