Qualification awarded
In order to obtain the degree of Master of Science in Pharmaceutical Care the student
  • should be enrolled for the programme in question under a diploma contract or under an exam contract to obtain a diploma
  • should have taken all the exams that the programme encompasses
  • should previously have registered for the programme with the examination board.
  • should have acquired at least 120 ECTS-credits
The programme consists of 120 ECTS-credits.
In a model academic year, the student takes between 54 and 66 ECTS-credits.

Objectives and learning outcomes

The Master is able to do independent pharmaceutical research. 

  • The Master is able to recognize, describe, analyze and solve complex pharmaceutical problems and is able to gather necessary knowledge/information for a problem.
  • The Master is able to evaluate medical-pharmaceutical literature and works at an international level.
  • The Master is able to think up, carry out and interpret a relevant scientific experiment for a pharmaceutical problem and reports on it orally and in writing 

The Master has advanced knowledge and skills related to the characteristics of drugs and the biological system on which they act. 

  • The Master knows the structure-activity relation of medicines, including physicochemical aspects and molecular mechanisms.
  • The Master has thorough knowledge of the methods of the therapeutic use of drugs and of their administration.
  • The master has the skills for lifelong learning in order to maintain a good professional level.

The Master has excellent competences in the field of the development, analysis, production and preparation of drugs. 

  • The Master knows how to use the methods for perfecting and preparing the administration of drugs and in this he/she respects the quality requirements.
  • The Master understands the formulation of drugs.
  • The Master applies statutory demands for packing, conserving and delivering drugs. 

The Master of Pharmaceutical Care has thorough knowledge of and attention for the integrated care for the individual and bears his/her responsibility in the medical sector. 

  • The Master of Pharmaceutical Care contributes to a sound drug and health policy.
  • The Master of Pharmaceutical Care competently advises patients about medical equipment, derma-pharmaceutical products, nutrition, food supplements, phytotherapeutics and veterinary drugs.
  • The Master of Pharmaceutical Care has advances knowlegde in relation to drug use for patient groups that require special attention such as pregnant women, children and the elderly. 

The Master should be able to provide patients and health care workers with information and advice on the use and choice of drugs 

  • The Master makes a critical analysis of every prescription, if necessary takes appropriate action, recognizes and takes into consideration various personal factors.
  • The Master gives appropriate advice on the use of drugs, both self-medication and prescription drugs. He/She brings about therapy loyalty and stimulates the rational use of drugs.
  • From the supply of self-medication drugs the Master chooses the most suitable ones for the patient.
  • The Master is skilled in oral communication in the interaction between pharmacist and patient. 

The master has the professional skills to function as a pharmacist. 

  • The Master knows the role of the pharmacist in health care
  • The Master is able to collaborate with fellow-pharmacists other care workers such as doctors, dentists and nursing officers, ).
  • The Master applies regulations in relation to pharmaceutical legislation and to social security.
  • The Master manages pharmaceutical ethics.

Final examination
A student’s final result is a weighted average of the exam results the student has obtained for all the programme components of his/her training programme. In calculating the final result, the credits corresponding to the various programme components are used for weighting the results obtained for those components.

The final result is expressed as an integer out of 100.

A student whose final result is less than 50 out of 100 can never be declared successful.

A student is successful for the training programme if he/she has obtained credits for all the programme components in his/her training programme.
