Biomedical Sciences is a varied scientific programme with a strong interdisciplinary character, where the healthy and the sick person are central. During this programme you will gain fundamental scientific knowledge and become familiar with a number of laboratory skills. You will be supervised by a team of scientists, doctors, veterinarians, and pharmacists. ‘Structure and function of man’ deals with themes, from cell to organ and from stimulus to reaction. ‘Research methods’ offers an intensive training in microscopic techniques, medical laboratory techniques and biostatistics. In the ‘Academic skills’ you will learn to gather information in a structured way in English and Dutch, to analyse and process it and to present the acquired results in a professional manner. In the dissertation you will work on a biomedical topic of your choice, where research themes, educational topics and aspects of enterprise can be treated.

Although the academic bachelor degree can be a final degree in itself, it is in the first place a preparation for a master programme. With the master degree you could, depending on your major, move up to a management position in biotechnological companies and laboratories, hospitals and pharmaceutical companies (e.g. as an executive research professional), the environmental and food sector, and many government organisations. This degree is also good preparation for a PhD, after which you will easily move up to executive research positions.
