Specific prerequisites for this course:
Basic knowledge of ecology and ecosystem management

2. Learning outcomes

This course must provide more insight in the scientific backgrounds and practical applications of restoration ecology. The student must be able to analyse a problem: waht are the causes of a decline in biodiversity in a certain area. Based on this problem description, the student must acquire the necessary knowledge to be able to make a concrete management plan for a site.

3. Course contents

The course consists of different parts. In the first part an overview is given of the ecological backgrounds as well as the societal context of restoration ecology. In the second part, the problems and possibilities for restioration of some ecosystem types are discussed. The third and final part of the course is a case study that is carried out in small groups.
