In the Linguistics and Literature programme you will gain insight in language (linguistics), learn to use both the spoken and written word (language proficiency) and thoroughly get acquainted with the literature and culture of your chosen languages. At the University of Antwerp, you will choose either two languages out of the 6 on offer (Dutch, French, English, German, Spanish, and Italian), or combine one language with a program (Theatre, Film, and Literature sciences or TFL). In this programme you will:
- learn to use the languages studied in diverse situations and at a level that is almost that of a native speaker;
- get a handle on the uses and systems of a language, and on the many significant differences between languages or expressions;
- will get to know culture, literature and theatre thoroughly;
- will acquire familiarity with research methods and develop your general knowledge in the broadest sense.
The Linguistics and Literature programme at the University of Antwerp leads to a very high level of language proficiency and pays a lot of attention to the student’s skill in research and analysis. The linguistics and literature classes offer students the opportunity to develop their interests and competences in a few areas quickly and thoroughly.
