3. Course contents

"Wikimedioneerlandistiek" Within only a few years of its introduction, the Internet has become the most important encyclopedia in the world. This also holds true for the field of Middle Dutch literature. In this seminar, we want to evaluate the much-used Wikipedia internet encyclopedia: what is the place of Middle Dutch literature in that encyclopedia, and what is the quality of the information? We also intend to correct and update articles if necessary and even to fill gaps by writing new ones. This year, we shall deal with a travel book dating from the end of the 15th century: Tvoyage van Mher Joos van Ghistele. Joos van Ghistele was a Flemish nobleman who traveled from 1481 till 1485 extensively in the Holy Land, in Asia Minor, Arabia and the eastern part of North Africa. Every participant will have to study one or more special problems in relation to this travelogue, report his or her findings to his or her fellow students and write a paper on them. All the papers will be collected in a book. The group as a whole will make a Dutch Wikipedia-article on Tvoyage, which will be published on the internet.
