1. Prerequisites
At the start of this course the student should have acquired the following competences: An active knowlegde of :The course is taught in Spanish A passive knowledge of :- General knowledge of the use of a PC and the Internet
Specific prerequisites for this course: Proficiency level of Spanish (reading, comprehension, oral, written)
2. Learning outcomes
The students are able to read and comment on a text according to the focus and methods acquired in the course.
3. Course contents
After a brief theoretical introduction concerning the characteristics of the genre, some short stories by canonical Latin American writers. Short stroies by Quiroga ("Van Houten"), Carpentier ("El camino de Santiago"), Cortazar ("Casa tomada"), Ribeyro ("Un domingo cualquiera"), Ferré ("La muñeca menor"), Arreola, Cabrera Infante are analyzed. The different characteristics of the genre will be examined in each text and there will be a discussion of the different ways the short stories can be read and interpreted. In order to prepare the analysis of each text each student will read and evaluate an article on the selected texts.
