1. Prerequisites

At the start of this course the student should have acquired the following competences:
Specific prerequisites for this course:
- Elementary mathematical skills (arithmetic, linear algebra, ...)
- Elementary knowledge on concepts such as: cost profit, production capacity



2. Learning outcomes

To be able to:

- translate an economic/management situation into a quantitative model

- solve the proposed model with the appropriate technique

- formulate pro's and cons of the used method(s)

- determine the applicability of several techniques

- interprete the results of the applied method in terms of the context




3. Course contents

This course handles the use of quantitative techniques to solve real-life operations management problems. It starts from the view point of the user/decision maker. Different types of problems will be discussed, for which the following methods will be proposed:

- Linear programming

- Integer programming

- Branch and bound techniques

- Projectplanning: PERT/CPM

- Advanced managerial optimisation problems
