A solid curriculum between law, economics and civil society
Once seen as a merely voluntary practice, CSR (corporate social responsibility) is increasingly becoming not just a moral but also a legal obligation. The programme explores recent developments in a wide range of subjects including private international law, human rights, corporate governance, labor law and sustainable development. The Master brings together leading scholars from four European universities. While it takes a global view, ample attention will be given to the European dimension of the subject.
Combining practical and research experiences
This full time European Master is designed for recent graduates and young professionals wishing to engage in advanced legal researches . It provides both practical and analytical knowledge, attracting also lecturers with professional experience in the field of corporate governance and CSR.
Target group and entrance requirements
The Master Programme is open to graduates in Law and students who expect to graduate in Law prior to entering the programme. The term 'graduates in Law', in the countries of the four RUN universities, is defined as follows:
Poland and Belgium: master degree in law
UK: LLB
France: Master I in Law
For all other countries, the Academic Board will assess the equivalence of the first law degree obtained.
Exceptionally, the Academic Board may decide to admit applicants with a first degree in another discipline than law. In such cases, applicants will need to show that they have acquired sufficient legal competencies in the course of their programme or professional career to usefully start the European Master.
The programme will enroll a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 30 students each year. The admission procedure is competitive. Students with high grades will be the preferred candidates for admission. Previous research experience is an asset. The Academic Board takes the final decision on individual admissions. Candidates whose mother tongue is not English must provide evidence of their command of English through internationally standardized tests.
Objectives
The programme is designed in such a way that it is potentially of interest to those wishing to pursue a career in corporate, public or civil society institutions.
In addition, the programme aims at attracting participants wishing to pursue an academic career. The European Master may serve as the initial year of a PhD programme, in that it offers methodological and substantive support in developing a research project, and an unrivalled opportunity to investigate the possibility of pursuing a Ph.D. at any of the collaborating universities.
Organisation of the programme
The fees for the academic year 2012-2013 amount to 6000 euro and cover full tuition. There is no differentiation between EU and non-EU students.
The first semester takes place in Antwerp, the second semester in Toulouse, with a one-week thesis seminar in Krakow (included in tuition fee).
Evaluation and certificate
After successfully passing exams, fulfilling participation in all programme units, and successfully completing and presenting the Master's thesis, students will be awarded the European Masters' Degree in Globalisation, Corporate Responsibilty and Law, jointly conferred by the Universities of the River Universities Network.
