Politics deals with shaping society: ideals, actions, conflict, power(s), ... . Through our educational offer within political science, we want to train our students to look at politics in a certain way, to truly understand politics. Therefore, we search for patterns and regularities within what is often looked upon as the political chaos of everyday life.
At the University of Antwerp, politics is studied on all levels: local (Antwerp), regional (Flanders), national (Belgium), international (European Union) and global (multilateral organisations). Apart from a sound scientifical base and methodological knowledge, our students develop competencies such as critical reading & writing, negotiation skills, debating skills, ... .
Special attention goes to the quality of our education - our programmes are all received and credited by the Netherlands-Flanders Accreditation Organisation. This quality assurance not only comes from the investment of time and energy of our faculty in colleges, seminars, debates, assignements/papers or intensive reading seminars, but also comes from the valuable input of international academic guest lecturers (for instance via Erasmus staff exchange) and practicioners who link practice with scientific research conducted within our various research groups.
The Department of Political Science offers several programmes:
Bachelor Political Science
Master of Comparative and European Politics
Master of Political Communication
Master-after-Master of International Relations and Diplomacy
