I am specialised in media culture and television studies. I lecture on research methods, popular culture, audiovisual media, and film and television genres. My research focuses on television fiction and history, issues of representation and media use, in particular in relation to social (national, cultural, ethnic and sexual) identity.
I am interested in collaborative research and PhD supervision on the above fields. I am currently a member of the COST action 'Transforming audiences, transforming societies', where I participate in Working Group 4 (Audience transformations and social integration) as leader of Task Force 1 (Media, Citizenship and Social Diversity). I also supervise PhD dissertations in communication studies on contemporary TV viewing (Nele Simons), queer online representations (Lukasz Szulc) and LGB music and subculture in Antwerp (Robbe Herreman and Marion Wasserbauer), as well as a PhD dissertation in the Arts on the double bass player Jimmie Blanton (Matthias Heyman).
