Dave Sinardet is politicoloog aan de Universiteit Antwerpen, en werkt vooral rond comparatief federalisme, nationalisme en Belgische politiek. Hij is post-doctoraal onderzoeker van het FWO en tevens deeltijds professor aan de VUB en aan de Facultés Universitaires Saint-Louis in Brussel (waar hij een Nederlandstalig vak doceert in de tweetalige bacheloropleiding).
Zijn onderzoek richt zich vooral op federalisme, nationalisme, media en publieke opinie in federale meertalige landen, taalpolitiek, consensusdemocratie en democratische legitimiteit van federale systemen.
Zijn doctoraat handelde over de wederzijdse beeldvorming van Vlamingen en Franstaligen in de politieke mediaberichtgeving en de rol daarvan in het Belgische federaal model.
Nu onderzoekt hij onder meer
de wisselwerking tussen het Belgische federalingsproces en de evolutie van het etno-politieke discours van Vlaamse en Franstalige politieke partijen en elites sinds de jaren 1960.
Hij publiceert in verschillende internationaal gerefereede tijdschriften maar neemt ook actief deel aan het Belgisch maatschappelijk debat rond federalisme, staatshervorming en de communautaire relaties, onder meer via zijn tweewekelijkse column in De Standaard en zijn maandelijkse column in Le Soir.
Hij is eveneens redactielid van verschillende tijdschriften, waaronder Politique, revue de débats waarvoor hij de vaste rubriek Uit Vlaanderen verzorgt. Tevens is hij lid van de pavia-groep, die de invoering van een federale kieskring in België bestudeert en bepleit,
maakt hij onder meer deel uit van de ECPR Standing Group on Regionalism and Federalism en is hij stichtend lid van de Political Communication Section van ECREA.
Dave Sinardet est politologue à l'Université d'Anvers, ou il travaille notamment sur le fédéralisme comparatif, le nationalisme et la politique belge. Il est chargé de recherches du FWO et également professeur à temps partiel à la VUB et aux Facultés Universitaires Saint-Louis à Bruxelles (ou il donne un cours en néerlandais dans le programme bilingue).
Ses recherches portent notamment sur le fédéralisme, le nationalisme, le rôle des médias et de l'opinion publique dans des sociétés fédérales multilingues, les politiques linguistiques, la communication politique, la démocratie consociative et la légitimité démocratique.
Sa thèse de doctorat portait sur le rôle des médias dans le modèle fédéral belge et plus spécifiquement sur les représentations réciproques de Flamands et francophones dans ces médias. Ces jours-ci, il travaille entre autres sur une analyse de la relation entre le processus belge de fédéralisation et l’évolution du discours etno-politique des partis et élites politiques néerlandophones et francophones dans une perspective historique. Un autre projet de recherche concerne la légitimité démocratique de systèmes politiques fédéraux.
Il a publié dans différents livres et revues internationales, mais est également un participant actif au débat de société en Belgique sur le fédéralisme, la réforme de l’Etat et les relations communautaires, et ceci des deux côtés de la frontière linguistique, entre autres à travers une chronique bimensuelle dans De Standaard et une chronique mensuelle dans
Le Soir
.
Il est également membre de la rédaction de différentes revues, parmis lesquelles
Politique, revue de débats
et Samenleving en Politiek. Il fait également partie du groupe Pavia, qui étudie et plaide pour l’introduction d’une circonscription fédérale en Belgique, ainsi que du ECPR Standing Group on Regionalism and Federalism et de la Political Communication Section de ECREA.
Dave Sinardet is a political scientist at the University of Antwerp and notably works on comparative federalism, nationalism and Belgian politics. He is post-doctoral researcher of the FWO and part-time professor at the VUB (Free University of Brussels) and the Facultés Universitaires Saint-Louis in Brussels.
His research interests include federalism, nationalism, the role of media and public opinion in federal multilingual societies, language politics, consociational democracy, political communication and democratic legitimacy.
His PhD dealt with the mutual mediarepresentations of Belgium's two main language communities and more generally with the media's role in the Belgian federal model.
These days he is amongst other things researching the role of federalisation processes in the evolution of the ethno-political discourse of political parties and elites in Belgium since the 1960s, as well as developing a project on democratic legitimacy of federal political systems.
He has published in different international refereed journal but is also an active participant in the Belgian domestic debate on federalism, state reform and the relations between regions and communities, amongst others through his column in the largest Flemish quality newspaper De Standaard and the largest French-speaking quality newspaper Le Soir.
Other research and publications concentrate a.o. on effects of electoral systems (in divided societies), group representation, the role of media and social movements in the legitimacy of multi-level systems as the EU, evolutions in public broadcasting and the representation of sexual and ethnic minorities in the media.
He is a member of the editorial board of different Belgian journals and member of the academic think-thank pavia-group which reflects on the introduction of a national constituency in Belgium. He is also affiliated to the ECPR Standing Group on Regionalism and Federalism and is a founding member of the Political Communication Section of ECREA.
